Damien Jurado

Damien Jurado, an Indie-Folk singer from Seattle, will release tomorrow his eleventh album called Brothers And Sisters Of The Eternal Son. His earlier releases, especially Maraqopa (2012) and Where Shall You Take Me (2003), are my favourites and it seems that the new release is taking one step forward in his career. I can listen to him for few hours, here are five of his giant repertoire

Moby

When I hear the name Moby, the first thing that comes through my head is innovation. Moby (Richard Melville Hall) played Hardcore Punk in the 80's, moved to Techno and Breakbeat and tried his luck in EDM, Electronica, Ambient  and a lot of more music styles. His Eleventh studio album Innocents, which was released a few days ago, is based on collaborations with various artists such as Mark Lanegan, Damien Jurado, Skylar Grey, Wayne Coyne (Of The Flaming Lips) and others. For my opinion, it's his best album since Play (1999), so take a little break to hear three new songs from this album and two earlier releases of this talented artist.

Circus (Pick Word #13)

Circus is defined as a company of performing artists such as acrobats, clowns, tightrope walkers, jugglers and trained animals, who travels from town to town in order to perform for the people. The origins of the circus were in ancient Greece, while those talented artists performed in a circle in front of the aristocracy of the Polis. It became widely spread since the late years of the 19th century until the mid-20th century but it is suffering a great decline in popularity last years due to the emergence of mass media and struggles of animal rights activists. Ohio (Pick Word #12)

As part of my project which aims to explore songs about all 50 American States, I decided to start with Ohio. Although it's the 34th most extensive state in US (2012 Database), it is the 7th most Populous with over 11.5 Million people. The capital city of this state is Columbus, which is the 15th populated city in USA. Some of the cities there grew great acts such as The Black Keys and Devo (From Akron), Afghan Whigs and Over The Rhine (From Cincinnati), Kim Deal (From Dayton), Nine Inch Nails (From Cleveland) and many more. For that reason, we can find a lot of songs written about Ohio, so it wasn't an easy one, but I think it's diverse and interesting. Kite (Pick Word #5)

When I was younger, I was fascinated by kites, those tethered air crafts that older kids in the neighbourhood flew. First invented in China about 2,800 years ago, the kites were made of silk and Bamboo which were the immediate materials to be used for that then new toy. Today, we can see children and mature people flying they're kites by the sea or in a windy green field far away from the noise of the common life.
