Psyence Fiction: 15 Years To Unkle Debut Album

Unkle debut album Psyence Fiction was a promising one from the lineup that it featured. Jason Newsted from Metallica, Thom Yorke from Radiohead, DJ Shadow as the producer, Ian Brown from the Stone Roses and Richard Ashcroft from The Verve. James Lavelle and DJ Shadow made a dark Electronica/Trip Hip album that was inspired from so many artists so I won't count it here... They mixed a lot of songs from different eras adding voices and lyrics of the artist above and together they made one of the most inspiring albums of this  genre. It was released 15 years ago, on 29th of September, 1998. So it's good time to remember some of its highlights

Be There (Feat. Ian Brown)
Chaos (Feat. Atlantique Khan)
Lonely Soul (Feat. Richard Ashcroft)
Bloodstain (Feat. Alice Temple)
Rabbit In Your Headlights (Feat. Thom Yorke)

Brought Them On: 15 Years To Gomez's Debut Album "Bring It On"

Gomez are a five piece English Indie band from Southport, comprising Ian Ball (Guitar and vocals), Paul Blackburn (Bass), Ben Ottewell (Guitar and vocals), Olly Peacock (Drums and synths) and Tom Gray (Vocals, guitar and keyboards). On 13 of April, 1998, 15 years ago, they released their debut record called Bring It On. From its release, it earned great reviews, including Spin magazine which called it "Damn beautiful album". That album was melodious thanks to the good collaboration of the voices of Ball, Ottewell and Gray, each having a great distinctive voice. It also sounds sometimes like an Americana album made in UK, but you cannot Deny the English accent... The album managed to win the 1998 Mercury Prize, defeating great albums such as Massice Attak's Mezzanine, The Pulp's This Is Hardcore and The Verve's Urban Hymns. I still find this album joyful, it seems that time hasn't harmed it at all... So here are five songs from that debut album

Make No Sound

Whippin' Piccadilly
Tijuana Lady

Get Myself Arrested

Bubble Gum Years

Specter At The Feast - Black Rebel Motorcycle [Review]

When Black Rebel Motorcycle Club released their debut album BRMC in 2001, they sounded like the big next thing mixing inspirations ranging from The Verve to Neo-Psychedelia. But the promise had never came true and the next albums sounded pretty much the same. That's what takes me to the seventh release of the band. Specter At The Feast, which was released 18 of March, 2013, should be listened as a goodbye from a close person, That person is Michael Been, the sound engineer of the band and also The Call former leader and the father of the bass player, Robert Levon Been. The band mates, Peter Hayes and Leah Shapiro, gather together and wrote an album of mourning, adopting more realistic standpoint. I found the album very joyful, maybe because it was made from the bottom of the heart. So put your motorcycle jackets on and let's dive through five songs of that angry rebels.

Album Rating: 8/10

15 Years To The Verve's "Urban Hymns"

Sometimes it's unbelievable how time goes by so fast. It seems that only yesterday I watched The Verve's brilliant video clip of Bitter sweet Symphony, in which Richard Ashcroft walks on London pavement without paying any attention to what's going on around him. It was the kick start of the most successful album of this band which was formed on 1989, at Wigan. Besides Richard Ashcroft (Leading Vocals), the band consists of other four members that time: Nick McCabe (Guitar), Simon Jones (Bass guitar), Simon Tong (Additional guitars) and Peter Slisbury (Drums). After this great album they broke-up for the second time until release of Forth on 2008 (Then they broke-up again...). So here are five moments from that great album of one of the main bands at the Brit-pop era.

1) Sonnet

In 5 Words: Orchestral movements in the dark
Favourite Line: "Yes, there's love if you want it, don't sound like no sonnet, my lord"

2) Bitter sweet Symphony

In 5 Words: Best Oasis style song they made...
Favourite Line: "Trying to make ends meet, You're a slave to money then you die"

3) The Drugs Don't Work

In 5 Words: The most beautiful song written by them
Favourite Line: "Now the drugs don't work, they just make you worse, but I know I'll see your face again"

4) Weeping Willow

In 5 Words: Hoping the pills will stay there
Favourite Line: "Weeping willow, the pills under my pillow"

5) Lucky Man

In 5 Words: Optimistic song in a gloomy record
Favourite Line: "But how many corner do I have to turn? How many times do I have to learn all the love I have is in my mind?"
